Learning from Injury and Illness

Getting sick is a bummer. Getting hurt is a bummer. But sometimes, these setbacks can be blessings in disguise.

I truly believe that everything happens for a reason, and sometimes these reasons surprise us. These lessons can be especially hard to learn when you find yourself suffering pain or illness that ends up keeping you from your hobbies and goals.

Birthday Blog Post: Part 2

I wrote a little birthday lessons post a couple weeks ago about some happy little life lessons I learned that day, but I thought that post needed a follow up, as there are so many lessons I would like to learn, or am in the process of learning. I did a lot of reflection on what my life had looked like in the past few years, what it currently looks like, and what I’d like to work on in this coming year. I can’t believe all that’s happened in the past year alone, let alone all that’s happened since I entered my 20s! Life is a pretty crazy, wonderful, complicated thing. I thought I’d share what I’ve learned in the past year and what I’d like to learn and focus on in the coming one.

Breathe, Don’t Break

Sometimes, I blog because I not only want to help other people but because I also really need to learn to take my own advice. Also, the new moon was on Tuesday this week, and new moons are a perfect time for new beginnings and implementing changes in one’s life, and I’m ready to make several so I can get my life back on track. I thought I’d take this opportunity to share the changes I’m making and the lessons I’ve learned.

Summer Reading List

One of my favorite things to do in the summer when I need a break from being active, is to soak up the sun with a good book. I’ve been doing a ton of reading over the past few months, which I’m sad to admit, is something I hadn’t done much of in the past few years…and it feels so good! In addition to rereading some old favorites (like Harry Potter — it’s a summer tradition!) I’ve found several books about our food system and planet that I think it’s important for everyone to read. I believe that part of the reason there are so many problems in our world (and in our country here in the U.S. in particular) is because people just don’t know the truth, and we put our faith in companies and systems that we assume use safe and ethical practices and have the best interests of the people at heart, but that just simply isn’t the case. Since food is something I care deeply about, and something that is vital to each and every one of us on this planet, most of these books focus on various aspects of our food industry. Also, because summer reading should be fun, all the books on this list are written by authors who not only are presenting important information, but have an engaging and conversational style that makes for a (almost!) fun read, considering some of the topics can get a little intense.

Spring Cleaning Lessons

I try to be someone who practices what I preach, and I have been making an effort every day to become healthier, happier, and more positive. The spring cleaning articles I wrote were as much for myself as they were for others! It’s been about a month and half since that first post, so I thought I’d look back on what I’d learned and see how working on making space in my life has helped me.
